Core RE

 

Core RE is a non-examined subject which encourages pupils to continue on their faith journey by exploring a range of topics from a religious and non-religious perspective. All pupils attend Core RE. The course has been designed to encourage self-reflection, discussion, practical learning and a deeper understanding of how faith can be lived in the modern world. Pupils will have the opportunity to study a range of sources, including scholarly views, encyclicals and scripture to enhance their understanding of Church teaching.

In year 12 pupils study the following topics:

- What does my faith mean to me.

-Human rights and human trafficking.

-Persecution.

-Religion and the media.

-Liturgical celebrations.

In year 13 pupils study the following topics:

-The Catholic faith through a variety of group tasks.

- Human rights and human dignity.

-Lent and the production of a Lenten project.

-What does my faith mean to me? Taking my faith out into the world.


The course is internally assessed, using extended written responses to a variety of questions which encourage pupils to explain, analyse and evaluate a range of issues. Pupils will be provided with clear feedback and have the opportunity to make personal improvements to their work.
