SIXTH FORM

A-Level Economics

Course Entry Requirements:

A grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics AND grade 5 in English Language/Literature.

General Course Description:

Every day, newspapers, radio and TV bombard us with information about economic issues. The economy is constantly changing and impacting upon us. Economics studies the fact that there are an infinite number of people wanting items but only a limited number of resources. The choices we make in everyday life are decided by economic choices. In this course we will study the reasons for making these decisions. How are prices set? How do we decide how much to work or study? Students will study the theory and principles of economic issues and relate these to the real world through case studies that are then examined in the final exams.

UNITS (FULL A LEVEL)

  • Paper 1 - Markets and Market Failure

  • Paper 2 - National and International Economy

  • Paper 3 - Economic principles and issues

Note – It is advisable to avoid the combination of Business and Economics. The University of Warwick advises ‘breadth of subjects is valued by our selectors and therefore subjects with significantly overlapping curricula should be avoided where possible, for example economics and business studies’ And the London School of Economics and Political Science states ‘the combination of business studies and economics as two separate A-levels is best avoided.’
