KS3

Intent and Knowledge Entitlement:
Pupils are introduced to a number of dramatic, explorative and staging strategies through a range of stimuli including text extracts, improvised scenarios, fables and props. This exploration is aimed to give them the tools and knowledge to be able to confidently stage their own pieces of drama with an audience focus as well as looking at design elements such as costume, set and stage types.

KS4

Intent and Knowledge Entitlement:
The study of drama at KS4 aims to equip pupils with knowledge of how semiotics communicate with an audience. Pupils study a range of text and interpret different characters through their acting skills. They must also show an appreciation of a play’s social, historical and cultural context through their design and staging ideas. Pupils will gain an understanding of how a theatre operates and the key roles and responsibilities of those involved in producing a production. Pupils will be challenged with devising their own original material with clear intentions for their audience using the skills gained throughout their study.
